CHILE, Santiago, bust 8 reales, Ferdinand VII, 1812 FJ, NGC AU 53. Cal-1405; KM-80. Broad flan, slightly off-center strike with mostly bold rims, deep rainbow toning over strong luster for the grade, an attractive example of the first year of the non-transitional type with proper portrait of Ferdinand VII (laureate bust), unlike the Santiago gold issues that retained the Charles IV bust all the way until the end of colonial mintage in 1817, from a reported mintage of 307,000 coins.
